Amazon Instant Video streaming is now live on the Xbox 360

Amazon Instant Video streaming is now live on the Xbox 360

If Amazon's video store is going to compete with the other online sources like Hulu and Netflix, getting on as many platforms as possible is key and it made a major expansion today by launching on the Xbox 360. The app launched on the PS3 back in April, and just like that version, this one includes access to Amazon's video on-demand and Prime all-you-can-eat subscription based streaming. Unique to the Xbox 360 app is support for the console's Kinect peripheral and its ability to recognize control by gesture or voice, plus a brand new feature for Amazon -- a queue. The Watchlist (for now only available on the Xbox 360, Kindle Fire and via the web) lets customers preselect programming they're interested in for easy access on the devices later, just like Netflix's implementation, however Amazon's VOD store means access to newer and higher profile content is just a click away. There's more details in the press release and video after the break, or you can just check out the app on your console right now (if you're in the US and have Xbox Live Gold, of course -- even if you don't have Prime, there's a one month free trial offer).

Update: Major Nelson also posted availability of other apps and a free XBL Gold preview weekend, as Antena 3 launches in Spain, MLB.tv in Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Muzu.tv in Australia and New Zealand. June 1st through June 3rd, XBL Gold access will be "unlocked", letting Silver gamers in U.S., Japan, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia and Chile play for free and access the Amazon, IGN, Manga Entertainment and Muzu.tv apps.

[Thanks, AtillaG!]

Actress Aruna Shields Interview | Celebrities Gossip | Hollywood ...

InterviewAruna Shields?recently gave an?exclusive interview?to the media and below is an extract of this interview. Aruna Shields says that Bollywood is indeed a complex mystery and to know why she think so, we invite you to read the interview below.

Tell us about your new film MR SINGH MRS MEHTA
MR SINGH MRS MEHTA which releases on June 25 is the directorial debut of Pravesh Bhardwaj who has assisted directors like Shyam Benegal and Gulzar and is produced by Medient. Set in London, MR SINGH MRS MEHTA is the story of Ashwin Mehta and Neera Singh who find that their spouses are having an affair. Drawn together by shame and anger, they find comfort in their growing friendship even as they resolve not to be like their unfaithful mates.

How do you view this whole issue of extramarital affairs which have become now so common in the modern society?

I don?t agree with affairs as they cause pain and secrets in relationships?but people will always have them and for a variety of usually selfish and complicated reasons: Neglect, insecurity, boredom, midlife crisis, weakness, excitement, stupidity, loneliness, revenge. Neera has her affair out of loneliness, despair and confusion. Also her conscience is relieved because she knows her husband is also cheating on her! Every relationship is different and it?s hard not to judge. Nobody is perfect. To make your relationship less vulnerable to an affair you really have to communicate, not take your partner for granted and respect each other.

What is you role in the film MR SINGH MRS MEHTA?

I play Neera Singh, a girl from small town who is an agony aunt columnist who advices others on their relationship and discovers that her husband is cheating on her. It?s a film about relationships.

From desi bond girl to an agony aunt that?s quite a jump in the range of role.

From a high action film like PRINCE to a film based purely on relationships, you can say that it has been quiet a jump. I?ve been blessed to have done a variety of different roles so early on in my career. I?ve played everything from femme fatale, girl next door, action hero to working class, even animalistic tribal woman. Even so, roles are easier to get when they are closer to what you actually are, because that?s how you?re perceived. Otherwise you have to work hard changing yourself and making it believable. Plus you?re competing with other actors who naturally are that type with no effort. You can do it, I?ve done it but it takes preparation.

It?s difficult changing your voice and physicality but extremely rewarding when the hard work pays off. You need good observational skills so you can watch how different people behave. Having intuition, spontaneity and trusting your choices is also important and has helped me a lot.

How did you get the part?

Pravesh was meeting actors from my agency at Pinewood studios and asked to see me. We met and we clicked. We went through sections of the script together. We communicated ideas about the script fluidly. Many actresses could have played my role and interpreted it in their way? but looking back I think I was chosen because I listened carefully to the director and we got on so well. He sensed I was very relaxed, laid back and relatively low maintenance which means less headaches and dramas for him. He knew I would work extremely hard and get the job done.

Tell us more about your character Neera Singh

Neera is evolving throughout the story. At the beginning she?s a young innocent, naive girl who has recently got married and is besotted by her husband. As she discovers he is cheating on her, her world is shattered and her journey of self-discovery begins. Her ideals and life philosophy are challenged throughout. She eventually has her own affair, later she allows herself to be a muse and painted naked ?and in doing grows in confidence, her body language changes and she becomes more extroverted. She blossoms into an independent woman who can take on the world.

Do you relate to a character like Neera?

I related to Neera on many levels going back to when I was an insecure teenager, remembering and transferring those experiences in my own life which changed me. Remembering my behaviour and thought processes when I had been hurt in relationships. I often used subtle physicality to express her feelings.

Working in hindi language must have been difficult.

Yes it was. The words are not important to me? it is the feelings behind the words which count. But in order to allow emotions to flow you can?t be fishing for lines as it takes you out of the moment?so I had a HUGE task making sure I knew lines extremely well.

How was it working with an intense actor like Prashant Narayanan.

Prashant has a great personality, he?s always laughing and happy and his positive energy is infectious. He is a great laugh, is down to earth and loads of fun. I will always remember on our last day we went driving in the Welsh countryside with the roof down at night. We took it in turns to stand up and scream Hindi words. Usually the ones I stuffed up on.

What has been your experience working in Bollywood so far?

What I love about Bollywood is it?s energy and life. Mumbai has an strangely addictive quality and even though you?re hot and bothered when you?re there?.when you leave you miss it?s craziness. Everywhere you look there is a mini drama going on which is intriguing to watch. I have friends who have emigrated from England to Mumbai and when they come back to the UK they feel like they are entering utopia, everything runs smoother, however after a couple of weeks they get fidgety and bored.

My understanding of Bollywood is that it is The Matrix? a complex mystery, I have no idea why things happen the way they do and everything runs at a much faster pace. Everything is constantly changing?including scripts!!! I think I learnt 9 versions of PRINCE, last minute. I try to look on the bright side?it?s good for the mind. Also I?m too busy learning lines so it keeps me out of trouble.

Any plans of making Mumbai your base?

I?m so proud to have had the opportunity to work in the incredible world of Bollywood cinema, and at such a high level. Depending on the scripts I will continue to consider work offers from India. Even so, I?m not a Bollywood actor but an international actor and would like to remain so. This means I have management in different countries (England, America, France and India) Regarding shifting base to one place, this is difficult because of the nature of my work. I?m a bit like a gypsy and travel all over. Maybe I will settle one day, I?ll go with the flow and see what happens.

What are the other projects you are working on?

It?s exciting times and I have the starring lead in studio feature film called AO THE LAST NEANDERTHAL releasing in September. It?s a gritty beauty and the beast love story based 30,000 years ago.

Dan Walters: New California voting rules alter campaigning

This year's California elections will test the theory that having independently drawn districts and a top-two primary ballot will result in a less polarized, more collegial and more relevant political structure.

That's just theory, but it's already evident that these changes are altering campaign dynamics, making the June 5 primary a political junkie's dream and a bonanza for hired guns.

For one thing, they mean more heated intraparty contests because many politicians were thrown together by an independent redistricting commission and for the first time, decline-to-state voters have a role in choosing who makes it onto the November ballot.

Call The Bee's Dan Walters, (916) 321-1195. Back columns, www.sacbee.com/walters. Follow him on Twitter @WaltersBee.

The potentially decisive role of independent voters means that campaigns in some districts are filling their mail boxes with carefully tailored appeals.

Under top-two rules, it's possible that in several districts, where large fields of candidates fragment the voter pool, the November election could pit an independent candidate against a Democrat or Republican, while the other party's candidate is frozen out.

When politicians of the same party run against each other, they rarely disagree on substantive issues, so some intraparty duels have become exchanges of personal attacks.

The most obvious example is the multimillion-dollar shootout between veteran Democratic Reps. Howard Berman and Brad Sherman, who were thrown together in the San Fernando Valley's 30th Congressional District, with support for Israel an emotional flash point.

There are many others.

One is the increasingly sharp duel between Republican state Sen. Doug LaMalfa and his GOP predecessor, Sam Aanestad, in the 1st Congressional District, a huge chunk of northeastern California. Another is in San Diego, where Democratic state Sen. Juan Vargas is vying with his predecessor, Denise Ducheny, in the 51st Congressional District.

There are dozens of such battles for legislative seats, reflecting rivalries of ideological factions in both parties, personal or family feuds, and the hopes of unions, business groups and other outside interests to gain influence as about a third of the Legislature turns over this year.

One of the most heated is in Southern California's 50th Assembly District, heavily Democratic but loaded with wealthy movie stars and financial figures.

First-term Democratic Assemblywoman Betsy Butler now represents just a tiny piece of the district and to win re-election must get past a very formidable opponent, liberal activist Torie Osborn.

Butler has Democratic leadership support, but Osborn has many entertainment figures backing her. The district's large and influential gay community is sharply divided, and the 50th AD is so Democratic that they may face each other again in November under top-two rules.

Six under-rated war movies to see on Memorial Day

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap) - "Patton," "The Great Escape," and "Apocalypse Now" have justly earned a place among the greatest war movies ever made. These films capture the horror, the sacrifice -- and, yes, sometimes the excitement of battle.

However, this Memorial Day, before watching George C. Scott address the troops beneath a massive American flag or quoting along as Robert Duvall rants about the smell of napalm in the morning, consider checking out these criminally underrated gems.

Movies like "Windtalkers" or "Jarhead" never got the critical attention they deserved, but they are every bit as affecting as more famous movies like "Platoon" or "The Hurt Locker."

Others, such as "Army of Shadows" were hits with the arthouse set, but never got the popular support needed to enter the mainstream.

All, warrant a viewing. Here's a look at six films that belong among the most compelling and emotionally involving cinematic portraits of war.

JARHEAD - This darkly comic look at a group of Marines desperate to see action, and finding mostly tedium, during the first Gulf War had the misfortune of hitting theaters in 2005 when the second Iraq War was at a boiling point. Something about the drunken shenanigans of a group of soldiers bored out of their skulls in the desert seemed to strike audiences as insensitive when a new generation of troops were risking death and dismemberment in the same troubled region of the world.

That's a shame, because there is a lot to savor in "American Beauty" director Sam Mendes' adaptation of U.S. Marine Anthony Swofford's memoir of the same name. Jake Gyllenhaal, Peter Sarsgaard and Jamie Foxx all contribute memorable performances, and the hazy, almost dreamlike cinematography by Roger Deakins is stunning. Moreover, the movie is a wholly unique look at the feeling of isolation experienced by the men and women sent to the far corners of the globe to wage the nation's war.

WHERE EAGLES DARE - This World War II action film is a pure fantasy; an enjoyable diversion that partly influenced Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds." From its improbable pairing of Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood to its stirring raid on a Nazi controlled castle in the alps, "Where Eagles Dare" offers up a slice of classic Hollywood filmmaking that is sorely missing from the multiplex these days.

It's a men on a mission film in the vein of "The Dirty Dozen," that has not other ambition besides entertaining audiences. A climatic battle on a cable car still holds up and Burton was never more fun to watch onscreen.

CASUALTIES OF WAR - Brian De Palma's searing look at the rape and murder of Vietnamese villager by a group of American soldiers could not be more different in tone from "Where Eagles Dare."

Though the picture suffers from an overly preachy conclusion, the first two-thirds of the film are emotionally shattering -- a nearly pitch perfect depiction of the darker side of battle and its impact on civilians.

Michael J. Fox, in a rare dramatic turn, is fine, but Sean Penn as an emotionally unstable sergeant gives a risky and chilling performance that ranks among his best. The haunting score by Ennio Morricone also rivals his more famous work in films like "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly" and "The Mission."

A commercial failure upon its release, "Casualties of War" deserves to stand alongside "Platoon" and "The Deer Hunter" as one of the definitive cinematic representations of Vietnam.

ARMY OF SHADOWS - Although it was critically drubbed when it was initially released in 1969, Jean-Pierre Melville's portrait of French Resistance fighters has undergone a dramatic reappraisal in recent years.

Stunningly restored in 2006, the portrait of suspicion, betrayal and heroism in Vichy France is a true film classic that depicts the Nazi occupation of the country like no other film save "The Sorrow and the Pity."

Melville, best known for noirish crime films like "Le Samoura?," drew on his own experiences as a member of the Resistance to fashion one of his most deeply felt works of art. It is fatalistic, but stirring -- boasting fantastic performances by Lino Ventura and Simone Signoret as some of the handful of men and women who valiantly stood up to their oppressors.

WINDTALKERS - Released in 2002 and deceptively marketed as a run-of-the-mill action film, John Woo's look at Navajo code talkers in World War II sunk without a trace at the box office. It deserves to be rediscovered, however.

Nicolas Cage, playing an army officer tasked with ensuring the secrecy of the code at all costs, even if it means killing the Indian soldiers he is ordered to protect, gives one of his most restrained and impactful performances. Woo also pulls off several bravura war sequences, that are highly stylized, almost balletic scenes of carnage.

The dialogue is weighted down in cliches, but there's always a battle just around the corner to keep things interesting and to make you remember just how good the Hong Kong action impresario can be when armed with the right material.

EMPIRE OF THE SUN - With its child's eye view of war, Steven Spielberg's adaptation of J. G. Ballard's semi-autobiographical was seen as a less-than-successful attempt by the director of popcorn entertainment like "Jaws" to prove that he could direct a grown-up movie.

Yet, the 1987 look at a young British boy who finds himself swept into an internment camp during the Japanese invasion of Shanghai in World War II, is a profound and powerful look at innocence lost.

Christian Bale was just 12 years old when he took the lead role in "Empire of the Sun," but the future star of "The Dark Knight," gives one of the greatest performances by a child actor in movie history. He perfectly captures the terror, anger and, hard-won maturity of a boy separated from his parents and forced to come of age amidst death and despair.

Family First: Parenting Your Parents ? Las Vegas Woman Magazine

Facing the inevitable with care, compassion and knowledge

By Lisa Ferguson

It was the phone call that Amber Sandhoff never expected to receive.

One afternoon in 2007, while driving home from her job as an account executive at KLAS-TV Channel 8, her cell phone rang. On the line was a caseworker at a California hospital, explaining that Sandhoff?s 66-year-old father was in grave condition, battling a serious liver ailment coupled with congestive heart failure. Federal privacy laws prevented the worker from providing additional information.

?I finally just said, ?If this was your dad, would you be on the next plane?? and she said, ?Yes,?? Sandhoff recalls. ?He was lying in the hospital. I?m an only child and he was separated from his wife, so I?m it.? She spent the next eight weeks flying back and forth between Las Vegas and San Luis Obispo caring for her father, whom doctors speculated had between six weeks and six months to live.

One thing was certain: Neither father nor daughter had plans in place?financial, legal, residential or otherwise?for his immediate or long-term care. Sandhoff began frantically researching topics online including advance medical directives, power of attorney documents and healthcare benefits. What she found, for the most part, were a bunch of ?shoddy-looking? websites that lacked reliable information. ?I was really frustrated.?

Her father went on to recover from his illnesses, but the experience inspired Sandhoff, who now resides in Colorado, to create the website parentyourparents.com. Filled with articles, blogs and resource information, the site is designed to help adult children and other caregivers assist their aging (and often ailing) loved ones in transitioning to the next phase of their lives.

Initially, the website?s elder care information was specific to Las Vegas, a city Sandhoff says offers ?excellent services? for seniors. The site has since expanded to include cities in every state across the nation. ?There are resources for people if they have financial constraints. There are assistance organizations and service organizations and senior centers, so we try to cover all of the bases ? for somebody that?s looking for help for their parents, whether it is at the beginning stages or at the end stages? of the care-giving process, she explains.

Also available on the site are home safety check lists for seniors; vital information sheets for keeping track of insurance policies, funeral and burial plans and other pertinent data; and ?conversation starters? to open dialogues between parents and adult children. Sandhoff, who serves as CEO of parentyourparents.com, says the latter may help others avoid the types of crisis-fueled decisions she and her father were forced to make about his future. ?A lot of it is (about) communication,? she says. ?Some family members are really open about it, and some people just aren?t.?

Conversations about an aging parent?s care?be it their medical, financial or residential options?can?t begin soon enough, according to Dr. Mark Edinberg. A psychologist in private practice who is affiliated with St. Vincent?s Medical Center in Bridgeport, Conn., he has worked in the field of gerontology for 40 years. A former professor at the University of Nevada, Reno, he authored the 1988 book ?Talking With Your Aging Parents.?

?It?s the kind of thing that people hesitate to do, but ? the earlier the better,? Edinberg says, and suggests broaching the big issues at a neutral time, ?Thanksgiving, Christmas and Passover don?t work.? Topics should be framed ?as a general concern, so that (the parent) can adjust? to the ideas presented. Meanwhile, adult children must remain ?calm on the inside going into the conversation, so that may mean putting your fears on the back burner and letting your hopes lead. Be thoughtful about that.?

How to begin such discussions? ?What goes on the plate first is, ?We need to look at your future because we are all involved in it,? getting in the idea that this is a family concern and not just an individual concern,? he says. That?s where the assistance of a buffer, such as an extended family member, trusted neighbor or clergyperson, may prove helpful. ?Sometimes people need a reminder that the family cares and also is going to be involved.?

The difficulty of these conversations for adult children can come from several sources, chief among them being faced with a parent?s mortality. Asking Mom or Dad whether their will is prepared ?is sometimes more difficult than asking them personal questions about their health,? Edinberg says. Then there are the ?subtle issues of control, meaning infringing on a person?s right to manage their own affairs,? which may include taking car keys away from a parent who is no longer able to safely operate a vehicle. ?That can be very uncomfortable for both parties,? and often leaves adult children wracked with guilt.

Edinberg?s advice: Refrain from stepping into the ?parental role? despite the circumstances. ?When we think of parenting in this context, we?re not thinking of all of the good things?nurturing, caring, giving, taking care of. You?re thinking of all of the awful things that no one would ever want to do to anyone, and you don?t have to do those.?

The key to having a conversation regarding an older person?s care, he says, is ?being clear about what your intents are.? Planning for the future is ?something that you?re doing with the other person. ? If you?re going to do something for someone, they?re not going to like it.?

The issue of personal finances can be especially difficult to broach. Because people are living longer today than in years past (often with costly, chronic medical conditions), the need to make funds stretch for additional decades has never been greater. ?People are torn between financing their kids? futures and potentially having to cover some of their parents? needs, even though they?re not legally responsible,? Edinberg says. ?This is really tough and if people are not planning, it?s even worse.?

Serious consideration must also be given to the decision of where Mom and/or Dad will call home as they age, says Elinor Ginzler, director of supportive services at the Jewish Council for the Aging in Rockville, Md.

?If you, as the adult child, walked up to your dad and said, ?By the way, Dad, we?re moving you,? he would look at you like you?re crazy, as he should, because all people want to stay in charge of their lives,? says Ginzler, who previously spent 14 years working for AARP, serving as its director of livable communities. Research shows that ?the older we are ? the more we want to stay in the setting that we?re in. It?s that sense of comfort and familiarity, and it?s powerful.?

Some older adults can continue to reside in the house in which they raised their own family. As years pass and care needs change, in-home care workers can be hired to assist with a variety of tasks, from tending to medical issues to tackling light housekeeping work and even providing companionship. Others may opt for active-adult communities, where residents live independently ?in an environment where they?re going to be surrounded by folks who are very similar to them,? Ginzler explains. In such communities, ?Usually you find a pretty nice looking clubhouse. There may be a golf course, there may be boating activities, there may be fitness paths.?

Another option is assisted-living facilities. Residents typically live in small apartment-type dwellings and have access to common areas such as dining rooms where meals are provided, as well as additional support services ?from laundry to cleaning of the house, all the way through to help with bathing,? Ginzler says. Because assisted-living facilities can vary greatly in terms of the amenities offered and price, she advises visiting several places before settling on one.

Meanwhile, continuing care retirement communities (called CCRCs) provide several residential experiences under one roof, which change to meet residents? needs. For example, within a CCRC, a healthy adult can begin living in a condominium-type space, and eventually transition to an assisted-living residence or one that features skilled nursing care without ever relocating from the property. Such facilities ?tend to be more expensive? than other residential options, Ginzler notes.

It?s also common practice for aging parents in to settle into the home of an adult child and his or her family, which may include a spouse and grandchildren. This option requires careful consideration and lengthy conversations well in advance of moving day, since family dynamics will certainly come into play in such an arrangement.

?If you?ve clashed with Mom all of your life, why would you think that moving her into your house would (make the situation) any different? In fact, it would probably be harder,? especially if guidelines are not agreed upon and followed by all involved, Ginzler says. After all, ?They?re not moving in with you, they?re moving in with all of you.?

Among the issues up for discussion: Will the parent sleep in a guest room or a special suite? Will he or she be responsible for helping with household chores or childcare duties? Will Mom or Dad do their own food shopping and cook meals? Are they expected to shoulder some of the utility or mortgage costs?

?You really have to keep those lines of communication open, but it can work,? Ginzler says, noting the countless situations where having an aging parent in the home ?has been incredibly valuable for the intergenerational connectivity that it brings? to families, especially those with young children.

?One of the things that you absolutely have to keep in mind at whatever level of engagement that you?re in with your parents is that these are the folks who raised you and that dynamic is the foundation for how you have to move forward,? Ginzler says. While it is valuable for an adult child to feel as though they?re giving back to a parent when he or she most needs the help, ?What?s going to work best is if you?re genuine, and if what comes from you is coming from the heart.?

Redefining the 'Arab Spring' | Ramzy Baroud - World News Trust

Ramzy BaroudRamzy BaroudIs Chaos Overtaking Revolution?

Ramzy Baroud -- World News Trust

May 23, 2012 -- The age of revolutionary romance is over.

Various Arab countries are now facing hard truths. Millions of Arabs merely want to live with a semblance of dignity, free from tyranny and continuous anxiety over the future. This unromantic reality also includes outside "players," whose presence is of no positive value to genuine revolutionary movements, whether in Egypt, Syria, or anywhere else.

Shortly after longtime President? Zine El Abidine Ben Ali was ousted in the Tunisian revolution in January 2011, some of us warned that the initial euphoria could eventually give way to unhelpful simplification. Suddenly, all Arabs looked the same, sounded the same and were expected to duplicate each other?s collective action.

An Al Jazeera news anchor might interrogate his guests on why some Arab nations are rising while others are still asleep. The question of why Algeria hasn?t revolted has occupied much international media. ?No Arab Spring for Algerians Going to the Polls,? was the title of a US National Public Radio (NPR) program by Andrea Crossan on May 10. The very recent Algerian elections were mostly juxtaposed with much more distant and sporadic realities in other countries, rather than in the context of Algeria?s own unique and urgent situation.

Why should Algeria be discussed within the context of Yemen, for example? What kind of conclusions are we seeking exactly? Is it that some Arabs are brave, while others are cowardly?

Do people revolt by remote control, on the behest of an inquisitive news anchor? Algeria is known as the country of a million martyrs for its incredible sacrifices in the quest for liberation between 1954-62. Some sort of consensus is being reached that Algerians are still traumatized by the decade-long civil war which started in 1992. The butchery of thousands was openly supported by Western powers, who had feared the emergence of an Islamic state close to their shores.

While Palestinians have been traumatized severely in the 64 years that followed their expulsion from Palestine, they remain in a constant revolutionary influx. The current trauma that millions of Syrians are experiencing as a result of the violence also cannot be expressed by mere numbers. Yet the violence is likely to escalate to a civil war, as destructive as that of Lebanon?s, if a political solution is not formulated under the auspices of a third, trusted party.

It is easy to fall victim to conventional wisdoms, to disseminate odd theories about Arabs and their regimes. The problem is that every day is churning out new events which cannot fit into a simplified concept like the "Arab Spring." The poeticism of the term was hardly helpful when 74 people died and hundreds more were injured as fans of two Egyptian soccer clubs clashed in Port Said on Feb. 1. The disturbing news seemed inconsistent with the Tahrir Square rallies one year prior.

Some in the media dismissed the killings as "confusing" or just "unfortunate." It simply didn?t fit the almost scripted perception we wished to have of Egypt?s "perfect" revolution. But Egyptians understood well the roots of the violence, and explained it within a local context. The fact is, the occasional violence that followed the ousting of President Hosni Mubarak was uniquely Egyptian and perfectly rational within the many movements that were attempting to exploit the revolution.

If things go according to plan, Egypt might have its first democratically-elected president in July. While some will celebrate the official rise of a "new Egypt," others will mourn the demise of the revolution and its prospected achievements. But there can be no perfect revolution with positive outcomes unanimously agreed on by all sectors of society. This doesn?t mean that the Egyptian revolution has failed. It has succeeded in engaging many new participants in the country?s political life, which had been controlled for so long by an authoritarian government. Tahrir Square has revised the rules of the game -- partially for now, but maybe fundamentally in the future.

Jean-Paul Sartre believed that society needed to position itself in a permanent state of revolution in order for freedom to take root and flourish. His support of the French youth revolt in 1968 was a testimony to his strong belief in freedom as a collective quest. ?What?s important is that the action took place, when everybody believed it to be unthinkable. If it took place this time, it can happen again,? he wrote in 1968.

?It is not uncommon ... that the revolution by the masses turns upon itself and starts feeding upon its own to protect itself against a conceived counter-revolution or internal dissension,? wrote Ayman El-Amir in Egypt?s Al Ahram Weekly. He further claimed that the ?Arab Spring has gone berserk, devouring its friends and foes alike, not so much because of fear of the counter-revolution but because one faction wants to steer the nation in its own direction. As a consequence, an environment of chaos is deliberately incited and revolutionary change is disrupted or misdirected.?

There is much truth to that, but El Amir too is falling into the pit of generalization. Syria is not Egypt, and a Tunisian may not think that her country?s revolution is "devouring its friends and foes." The Arab Spring is only confusing and strange when we insist on calling it an "Arab Spring."

It is much more cogent when understood within its local contexts. Egypt is in turmoil simply because it is undergoing a process that is restructuring a society that was made to cater to the whims of a small, corrupt class of rulers. Syria is positioned in a much more difficult geopolitical intersection, where countries throughout the region are all ?investing? in the violence to ensure that the outcome suits their interests. The Syrian people?s relevance to the struggle there remains strong, but, unlike Egypt, they are not the dominant party anymore.

Egypt is not Syria, and Yemen is not Bahrain. However, while we need to remain wary of generalized and reductionist discourses, this does not indicate a need to disown collective identification with other people?s struggles.

To the contrary, a truer understanding of what is now taking place in various Arab, and also non-Arab countries, is a more conducive way of offering solidarity. ?We will freedom for freedom's sake, and in and through particular circumstances. And in thus willing freedom we discover that it depends entirely upon the freedom of others and that the freedom of others depends upon our own,? Sartre argued.

It is from this value as a point of departure that one can speak of Yemen, Syria, Egypt, and yes, Greece in the same sentence. Any other interpretation is lacking at best, suspect at worst.

How To Save Money On Your Cruise Booking ~ TRAVEL LEISURE ...

e-bruxelles-city.com - Cruise Lines generally finalize their ship itineraries from 12 to 18 months before sailing day and the earlier you book a better chance you have for the "early booking discounts".

Another way to get a reasonable discount is a "last minute booking".? The risk here is that your choices of itineraries will be limited as well as ship and cabin choices.

Cruise lines often have a lot of cancellations just prior to the start of their penalty period. If significant enough, the cruise line will likely offer an unannounced fire sale for a day or two to try and fill the space.

If you request a specific date, don?t get upset when you hear the price. Check the price a week earlier or later and you may save several hundred dollars. Find a way to adjust your schedule.

A good travel agent should be asking you for the necessary information to get the best deal from the cruise line.? The lines are always running specials for particular groups and particular time frames. Discounts are often available for teachers, honeymooners, family reunions, seniors, frequent cruisers, groups and military personnel.

Large discount agencies will often make a significant investment in booking Group Space on a particular cruise. This means they have a lower price locked in, while an individual booking may be higher by hundreds of dollars.

You will Never Pay Brochure Price. Cruise lines all issue gorgeous, glossy brochures with "sample" pricing but consider those prices to be about as accurate as those per-day hotel rates posted on the back of your room's door.

Cruise lines have adapted to Homeland (Homeport) Cruising from ports in cities all along the U.S. coastline. This includes itineraries that sail to the Caribbean, the Bahamas, Bermuda, the Mexican Riviera, Canada and New England, and Alaska. No need to tack on the cost of an airline ticket to more traditional send-off port cities, like Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and San Juan, when you can take a train, a bus or your car.

Surf the Web Before you Book to gather information or you can act as your own travel agent, from selecting a cabin to booking a cruise. The internet is a great place to shop around and gather tips.

Use your Frequent Flyer Miles to pay for your airfare when traveling a great distance to the ship.? It is risky but if you arrive a day early, you probably won?t miss your ship?s sailing.

There are Cruises available in all price ranges, from budget to luxury and all represent perhaps the best value for your vacation dollar.

When traveling with a family, you might consider two regular cabins instead of a Suite for all family members.

Last minute sailings are a thing of the past.? Because of heightened security since Sept. 11, 2001, it is no longer possible to stand by on sailing day. Most lines now require at least 48 hours lead time for bookings, but these days, a week or two in advance of sailing is regarded as last-minute. Check the Web sites of cruise lines and cruise-line booking agencies, which often have space available for flexible travelers. The plus/minus: You may get a good price, but the most desirable cabins may be booked.

Ask for a ?Category Guarantee? booking. This means that you can purchase the specific cabin category on the ship but a stateroom will not be assigned immediately. You will find out the stateroom number at the pier or in advance. You will never receive a cabin in a category less than the category booked and there is a chance for an upgrade to a higher category which means a better cabin at no additional cost.

At specific times during the year you will find great deals. The end of August through to Thanksgiving, when school is back in season will be less expensive. But it is also the time when there will be more children on board. The sailings just before Christmas, but not over the holidays and early January, right after the holidays are always a bargain.

For Alaska, the early and late season months of May, early June, and September offers the biggest savings. If you travel during these ?book end? periods it's often possible to pay half of what you'd pay for an equivalent cruise in July or August.

All the cruise lines will be running EXTRA SPECIAL discounts during these periods.

One-way REPOSITIONING CRUISES are excellent values, when ships move to new bases. These occur twice a year: In spring, ships relocate from Florida and the Caribbean to Europe and Alaska. In fall, they move in the reverse direction. Most voyages run 14 to 17 days.? Keep in mind that there will be fewer ports of call and more sea days on repositioning cruises.

Cruise agencies will often book blocks of cabins from the cruise lines called Group Bookings. An agent that has one of those blocks for your sailing date can give you a better rate than one that does not.? This explains the public appearance of disparity in rates for the same cruise among Travel Agents.

?No matter how good of a price you have gotten on your cruise, ask to be put on the upgrade list.? Give them a good reason, such as checking out the ship for a future family reunion.

Cruise Auctions should be investigated. Do your homework.? Of course eBay Cruise Auctions is the auction GIANT but you should consider skyauction.com also.

Now that you know how to get the best price on your cruise, Set Sail!

strategic planning facilitator More Details about strategic planning facilitator here.

As a strategic planning facilitator, have you taken a look at how you use projector and remote? If not, then you should start now. A lot of facilitators think that projector is just a means to an end and that the only function it serves is to make sure you have means to show what's on your computer screen. This is true to a certain extent, since obviously projecting is its primary goal. Using it effectively in facilitating is a different thing all together though.

Checking your projector before a session is part of effective planning. It is always advisable to enter the conference or training room early so that you can at least check that the projector is working. Most projectors take around three minutes before they warm up so coming in right on time means you will have to spend the first couple of minutes of your session waiting for the projector to turn on.

Once you have switched the projector on, you should check your remote control next. As a strategic planning facilitator, it's important for you to know how to use the remote control correctly. In some locations, the standard sized remote control may have already been replaced by small finger-sized usb remote that you have to plug into your computer.

A standard projector control has a couple of basic functions. The first is to freeze your screen. At some time during your presentation, you might need to open up another screen for example. Instead of having to make your participants see the rest of your screen, you can freeze it and all the participants will see is the screen you were last on. The projector remote will also have a button to choose input options. If you use two computers as a lot of facilitators do, you have the capability to switch screens right from the projector.

Other than those buttons, most remote controls also have mouse buttons. These mouse buttons will allow you to move through presentations without having to go back to your pc. The advantage of this is that you don't have to walk from one location to another - a hassle when your facilitator training area is far from the computer you are using.

And that's it. You now know how strategic planning facilitator projector skills for your next class or meeting.

Drivers safely let loose their suppressed road rage by bouncing into each other in bumper cars. The Groupon Guide to: Bonding with Your Child

Babies come out of the womb so physically weak that they will love anyone strong enough to hold their jello-like bodies, but as kids grow older, parents must earn their love. Here?s how to force your kid to adore you:

Buy Them a Car: Your kid doesn?t want to be seen in whatever hot metal garbage you?re driving around. Drop off your spawn at their favorite local dealership, give them your credit card, and then go wait for them to meet you at the nearest Pizza Barge franchise.

Be a Cool Parent: Make it obvious that you?re not like other parents by dressing in teenager clothing (tight jeans and a T-shirt from a sandwich shop that doesn?t exist anymore). If people mistake you for your child?s loose-skinned older sibling, just go with it. Tell them that your child?s parents disappeared while committing a crime of passion together and you decided to raise your sibling as a graduate-school project.

Spend Time with Them: When children are still young, you can just carry them around in a sling on your chest, but as they grow older and heavier, it?s better to stay attached by sewing a shirt big enough that you both can wear it at the same time. If your kid refuses to wear the shirt, cry loudly until you both feel embarrassed, and then call your kid?s crush and cry loudly to them.
