Honda Brings Three New Sport Hybrid Systems- Great ...

Honda, one of the highly reputed automakers has brought some innovative ideas with their vehicles like alternative fuel solutions, and hybrid powertrains and so on. Honda engineers and designers have been working for a long time with the hybrid powertrain to cut fuel cost. They have already released some details about their new inventions with hybrid power system. Road&Track reports that Honda is working with three new hybrid systems, which will be used on their upcoming vehicles to boost power and fuel economy.

You may find the Super Handling-All Wheel Drive system namely the Sort Hybrid SH-AWD as the most exciting hybrid system from Honda. According to sources, Honda features a V-6 engine with a powerful 3-motor system in this hybrid system. Honda officially announced that the performance of this system is equivalent to the performance of a V-8 engine, and with better fuel efficiency than a 4-cylinder inline engine. Honda has nicely combined this V-6 engine with an upgraded 7-speed (DCT) dual clutch transmission system that combines with a built-in electric motor. To achieve better controlling the automaker has introduced two electric motors in the rear portion to control the distribution of torque.

Honda says that by using two independent motors on both left and right rear wheels, it is now possible to apply positive and negative torque on outside wheel and inside wheel accordingly. Now, it is not necessary to provide engine output to wheels for torque distribution. Thus, it becomes possible to achieve great economy with fuel efficiency. Most interesting matter is that it has apparently become possible to self generate the outside wheel by recovering the energy generated by the inside wheel. Honda is still now silent in the question which cars will get this hybrid system.

Honda calls the second hybrid system as the two-motor Sport Hybrid Intelligent Multi Mode Drive. They also announced that this hybrid system will appear at Detroit Auto Show in January in the 2014 Honda Accord Plug-in. Most interesting matter is that this system will use a newly developed engine that will be completely dedicated to hybrid vehicles. It will use a lock up clutch and two built-in electric motors to acquire better power transmission with smooth controlling. Depending on the charge level of the battery, driving mode can be switched to any one of the three modes when required. Drivers can change the mode to ?EV Drive?, where they will get driving by electric motor only. If the driver requires speed range from medium to high level, then the mode can be shifted to ?Engine Drive?. In this drive mode, engine power will be transferred to wheels mechanically. ?However, the ?Hybrid Drive? is designed for urban driving, where drivers can use both electric motor and engine output to accelerate faster.

Honda calls the third one as the one-motor Sport Hybrid Intelligent Dual Clutch Drive System. Here, Honda has smartly combined a 1.5 liter 4-cylinder Atkinson Cycle engine with an upgraded 7-speed DCT system. The built in motor provided with this system is a highly efficient one with great power output. Honda developers say that the clutches used in this hybrid system are to disengage the engine during deceleration and during low speed EV modes. Disengaging the engine during deceleration will result in reducing the engine drag.
