TWO brothers preparing to tackle the London Marathon for the first time this year have organised a foootballing fundraiser to help boost their charity total.

Richard and Alan Kingston (both 30) will be lining up against a Spurs Legends XI next Sunday (February 24) as part of their bid to raise money for Children?s Cancer UK.

Held at the Link Social Club on Parsloe Road, the match will feature ex-White Hart Lane favourites including Mark Falco, Tony Galvin, Justin Edinburgh and Stuart Nethercott and kicks off at 2pm.

Painter and decorator Richard said: "I want to raise about ?1,500 and I realised I couldn?t reach my target with donations from just family and friends, so I came up with the idea of a charity football match.

"A lot of my final total depends on how successful this event is so I?m hoping we get a good turnout."

Richard said training for the 26-mile run was going well - despite a late start.

"I only found out about three weeks ago that I was going to be able to take part," he explained.

"Initially there weren?t enough spaces for me, so I haven?t been training for long.

"My regime at the moment consists of a lot of running, football and squash. I?ve also done a half marathon which went well - I completed it in just under two hours."

Tickets for next Sunday?s game cost ?5 for adults, ?3 for children and ?12 for a family of four.
