Osfest ticket sales to boost cancer appeal

Ticket sales at a Shropshire music festival featuring chart-topping boyband JLS and X Factor winner James Arthur will go towards a campaign for a new ?2 million bone cancer centre in the county, it has been revealed.

About ?5 from each ticket sold on promotional days at Osfest ? Break for the Border will be handed over to Oswestry Bone Cancer Centre Appeal.

The festival has already sold out its Early Buy tickets, and day tickets for the festival at Oswestry Showground on May 24 to 27 start at ?34.50.

The announcement has been greeted with delight by charity campaigners, who have described the partnership as ?fantastic news?.

The bone cancer centre appeal was launched in December last year and aims to raise ?500,000 towards a new ?2 million bone cancer centre at Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Gobowen.

The new centre will be designed to treat cancer patients, the majority of whom will be under 24, and so far more than ?4,700 has been raised through online donations alone.

The planned bone cancer centre will include en-suite rooms, treatment and relaxation areas and a garden reflection space.

It is hoped it will be set up near the hospital?s main entrance.

Representatives from the charity will hopefully be on site in May to help raise awareness for the cause. Appeal wristbands will also be available to buy. The Bone Cancer Centre Appeal film will also be shown.

Carly Jackson, event director for Osfest, said: ?We hope we will be able to raise awareness for the charity. We are really pleased to be helping with that.?

Gwilym Owen OBE, appeal director, said: ?This is fantastic news.

?We are delighted that Osfest 2013 has come onboard to support our Bone Cancer Centre Appeal.

?The festival targets the age group where bone cancer most often strikes.?

To donate to the cancer centre appeal text 70070 starting the message with OBCC78 and a donation amount.
