David Chase's rock film "Not Fade Away" to premiere at NYFF

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - "Not Fade Away," a rock 'n' roll drama from "Sopranos" creator David Chase, will have its world premiere as part of the New York Film Festival, the Film Society of Lincoln Center announced on Wednesday.

The film marks the feature directing debut of Chase, with a cast that includes his "Sopranos" star James Gandolfini. John Magaro, Jack Huston and Brad Garrett also appear in the film, which is set in New Jersey in 1964 and deals with a group of friends who start their own rock band.

E Street Band member and "Sopranos" co-star Steve Van Zandt, a veteran of the Jersey rock scene of the '60s, will produce the soundtrack.

"'Not Fade Away' is a personal film with a backdrop very important to me, a period in American music that was one of the best," said Chase in the press release announcing the selection.

"To have the film debut at the NYFF exceeds my wildest dreams and the dreams of everyone associated with the movie."

The film will screen on Saturday, October 6 in a Centerpiece Gala presentation at the 50th NYFF. A Paramount Vantage film, it will be released publicly beginning on December 21.

The festival, which apparently has opted to reveal its marquee selections one film at a time, has previously announced that it will open with Ang Lee's "Life of Pi" and close with Robert Zemeckis' "Flight."

NYFF begins on September 28 and runs through October 14. Tickets will be available to the public beginning September 9.
