'Antiques Roadshow' Takes Another Look At Items Appraised In A 1997 Episode (VIDEO)

For the first time in its long history, "Antiques Roadshow" (Mon., 8 p.m. ET on PBS) took a look back at some items they'd appraised in a previous episode to see how they were faring in today's market. Reaching back fifteen years, they picked the episode that featured the famous letter that coined the phrase, "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus."

The historic artifact was a letter that a little girl wrote to a newspaper, prompting a famous editorial. In 1997, the appraisers valued the letter -- with accompanying newspaper clipping -- at between $20,000 and $30,000.

Today, the item has shifted closer to $50,000. And that wasn't the only featured item to show impressive gains in the collectors market. A spice cabinet went from $50,000 to $85,000, while a Tiffany lamp jumped from $100,000 to $175,000.

The episode served not only as proof that the show does indeed find gems, but that the market for these types of items is still strong and growing.
