At the Mill Valley Cat Classic Invitational on Wednesday at Alvamar Golf Course in Lawrence, Basehor-Linwood girls golf coach Bruce Courtney watched as his four girls withstood searing temperatures in their first 18-hole tournament of the season.

Candice Jennings registered the Bobcats? lowest score with a 114, placing 28th out of 50 girls. Julie Lough shot a 117, Brooke Schler shot a 122 and Marriah Clayton shot a 126.

?It would have been easy to give in to the heat and let their game go,? Courtney said. ?I know all of them came away with an understanding of where they left strokes on the course. It was good to hear them talking about this, because this means they know what to work on to lower their score.?

The Bobcats placed ninth with a 479. They return to competition at 12 p.m. on Tuesday in the Piper Invitational at Dub?s Dread Golf Course in Kansas City, Kan.
